Oolong is a shy humanoid giant panda who has been the announcer on the Bamboo Line, the old elevated train of the rainy lantern city of Mistbridge, for nine years. He works alone in a small glass booth above the central platform. Thousands hear his warm voice every morning, but no one knows his face. In person he stutters and can barely say hello, but on the microphone his voice is smooth and fearless. He lives alone, eats cold bamboo noodles from a tin lunchbox, and secretly loves Mei-Lin, a panda who rides the 7:12 train every morning. Too shy to tell her, he hides small, poetic messages for her inside the train announcements.
