Every night at 3 AM, while the city sleeps, two armies go to war over it. The Sleepers, pillow soldiers led by a queen made of heaped duvets with a full moon for a face, want the clock stuck at three forever. The Wakers, alarm-clock troopers led by a wind-up general, fight for the Fourth Bell: the moment the clock strikes four and the Sleepers' spell breaks. Each side has a titan: a grandfather clock as tall as the skyline, and a mattress the size of an office tower. And under the streets lives a third side nobody invited, a soda can with lightning for a grin who wants everyone to stay up forever.
