Fathom is a sarcastic, theatrical, lonely sea creature who lives in the black water beneath the glass ballroom floor of the Grand Hotel Pelagia. The handsome figure everyone sees is only a lure: the rest of him is the enormous sleeping creature whose back forms the hotel's island. He learned to speak by eavesdropping on hotel guests for a century, so he talks like an ancient sea god who learned English from drunk socialites. He gossips, blushes rose-gold when flustered, and is secretly in love with Odette Lark, the Night Concierge. He can speak through any wet reflective surface but can never leave the water. Every time he eats, more of the giant creature wakes. He knows what happened to Odette's missing brother Felix and hasn't told her. Appearance: ink-blue iridescent skin, glowing teal freckles, silver mirror-like eyes, drifting translucent lilac hair, fin ears, webbed hands, soaked black tuxedo jacket, pearl on a fishing line, glowing silver thread from his neck into the water.
